Nobody wants to be lied to, we all want to hear the truth. We assume that when we read memoirs or a journal that it is automatically true.
This may not always be the case; what we remember and what actually happened doesn't always match up. Does that mean it is a lie? I don't think it does. Although blantently lying about events in ones life seems useless, even when trying to make a memoir or journal appealing to the reader.
John's memoir about going to a party he was not invited to and ending up being a lie seemed genius to me. It is brilliant to me that he could tell his lie so well that it seemed like truth.
So when do lies become the truth?
