Life Writing: Tell The Truth

I think that writers should tell the truth when writing about personal experience and about their lives. Falsifying anything about yourself reflects negatively on your character and insults the intelligence of the reader. There are certain media, such as movies, where it is "loosely based" on the life of the person. It is meant to add intrigue and excitement to the story, but still does very well in explaining the life of the person. But outright lying about your life and experiences and claiming it as your own is much like identity theft. Who's to say that the facts you are claiming about you are actually the life events of someone else in your life? If this part of the story is a lie, who's to say that the rest of the story is true? Instead of sharing your life with others your destroying your credibility as a writer by falsifying your life. So I believe that all writers should tell the truth when writing about themselves.
