Daniel's Villains

The villains described in Moira Farr’s memoir, “After Daniel”, were those destructive forces of addiction, mental illnesses and finally the triggering events that led Daniel Jones, the main character, to commit suicide as a means of ending his sufferings.

Daniel, who had suffered a prolonged depression and phobia as a teenager and young adult eventually became an alcoholic. His alcoholic addiction only acted as a mere mask for his mental illnesses. However, it was until he struggled to remain sober along with his recent marital split, financial difficulties, his strained and estranged relationship from some family members and friends, a recent suicidal attempt and a string of disappointment of his work that forced him to commit suicide.

Moira Farr, on the other hand, although she expressed a sense of guilt, was in no way responsible for Daniel’s self-destructive action of suicide.
